Seeking a Friend for the End of the World

The television commercials advertising this film portray it as a comedy, but it is not a comedy; it is a romantic drama about a middle-aged man living the last couple weeks of his life before an asteroid hits the earth and destroys all human life.

The fall of the Roman Empire was the end of the world as it was known. It was not, however, then end of the world. Attitudes to the Fall were different, with St. Jerome thinking the fall of Rome was a type of apocalypse, whereas St. Augustine of Hippo realized that civilizations rise and fall, so after Rome's fall there would eventually be another civilization and therefore all was not lost.
